"First Dance" Wedding Package

Wendy Wong
Your instructor, Wendy Wong
“I have had a lot of experience teaching couples to dance for their First Dance, and I promise to make your lessons as stress-free as possible.”

Our dance wedding package is quite simple. Each year we receive over 100 email and phone enquiries from brides and grooms asking us to teach them something special and appropriate for their wedding first dance. So what we do is put together a package of two private lessons to teach you exactly that. weddingbells.ca You will learn at your own pace and your lessons will be tailored to your specific First Dance requirements. You will not only learn how to dance, but also how to walk on to the dance floor and end your First Dance elegantly. This is your wedding, your night to shine, you are the stars! You are welcome to bring along a friend or family member to video your dance lessons or just for moral support.

What does it cost?

The cost per package of two lessons is $108 plus gst. You can purchase as many packages as you need. No advance payment is needed. Simply register and pay when you come in for your first lesson. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Interac.

How long are the lessons?

Each lesson is 55 minutes long and we recommend that you take the two hours on separate days to give you a chance to practice and absorb the information. One week between lessons usually works well.

How do I set up an appointment?

To make an appointment please contact Wendy directly by email or by phone at the studio at 604-273-3130.

Wendy is available for lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 10 am to 7:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 10 am to 11 am and 1 pm to 6 pm. She is off on Thursdays and Sundays.

What music do I use?

This is probably the most difficult question of all to answer. The music for your First Dance is as personal a choice as the wedding gown. There are many websites dedicated to First Dance music. Just Google “First Dance” and you can listen to various songs and find one you like.

It is easier to dance to a song with a definite beat, and that is not too slow. Many very beautiful and romantic songs are difficult to dance to. We recommend you choose a song that is about 2 to 3 minutes long or else plan to fade it out at that point.

You might also wish to check YouTube as many couples are now showing off their wedding dances online. Have a look!

If you plan to dance to a special song, bring a CD of the song to your first lesson. If you are not sure of which song would be best then bring in several choices. We can advise you on the suitability of each choice. You can also email the song file to Wendy and let her prepare something in advance of your lesson.

What do I wear for the lessons?

It is best to wear comfortable clothing and shoes for your lesson. You may wish to ‘try-out’ your Wedding shoes, but you probably will not want to wear them throughout the lessons.

What if I want to have a fancy routine like I see on YouTube?

Wendy will be able to teach you how to dance to your song within the allotted 2 lessons. This will satisfy mostl wedding couples. However, for those adventurous couples who wish to learn more or wish to have a complete fully-choreographed routine to their song, then it will definitely require more than 2 lessons.

You should allow for 4 lessons to learn a simple routine. A more complex routine will require 6 to 8 lessons. You can purchase as many packages of 2 lessons as you need.

Should you decide to have a choreographed routine, then you will need to set aside enough time to learn and practice the routine. We recommend starting your training at least 2 months before the wedding.

We would also need you to email us a copy of your music at least 1 week before your first lesson in order for us to prepare in choreography in advance and save you lesson time.

Go ahead and give it a try. Maybe we will see your wedding dance on YouTube!

Here are a few more tips from Wendy, our wedding dance expert:

  • Don’t wait until the last minute. There is little doubt that your schedule will get very hectic in the month before your wedding. We recommend starting your lessons two months in advance.

  • Most people would feel a little intimated walking into a dance studio as a beginner. Don’t be! We have taught over 13,000 people how to dance since our studio opening in 1994.

  • Remember, dancing is fun! Forget about the audience and just share the moment with your new husband or wife. If you can be comfortable, confident and assured with your dancing, the rest will fall into place. After all, it is your moment to share together.
